Judges Livestreaming Court

Main Post:

I watch a lot of district court proceedings on YouTube, typically streamed by judges themselves. I'm curious about what permits judges to livestream court cases, is the streaming permitted and regulated by statute? What if any relationship does streaming have with the Code of Judicial Conduct? Is it based on judicial discretion? I've seen a proceeding in which a lawyer objected to the stream for fear of the live commentary of the YouTube viewers negatively influencing the public and setting up the potential for a tainted jury. The judge shot this down, but did that objection have any merit?

Many of the judges I watch seem to be in Texas court, but there are others as well, like Wisconsin and Washington. Perhaps someone from these states could offer insight.

Top Comment: Court proceedings are public and judges have discretion on whether to allow cameras for the most part. You have the right to access any court proceeding in person subject to some exceptions, and nowadays a lot of courts allow people to request a livestream instead of attending in person.

Has anyone taken an apartment complex to court?

Main Post:

Has anyone taken an apartment complex to court? If so what was the issue and how did it turn out? I'm getting ready to file with the court about the apartment complex I live in. I have not had AC for over a month, including throughout a record setting heat wave. I have submitted 8 maintenance requests for the issue to be fixed and so far it has not been. I just had to get a hotel room because I had my daughter for the weekend and I didn't feel it was safe for her due to the heat, honestly it's not safe period but I can't afford a hotel indefinitely. Some days it's approached 100F inside the apartment. It's been too hot to cook or sleep and as a result my sleep and activity levels have severely suffered. I'm just trying to see if anyone else has gone through this before and how it turned out in your situation. Did management have a vendetta? Did the management get reprimanded or fired? Did they even show up to court?

Top Comment: Look into your state tenant rights ac is not always something they can be held for. I live in ma there are strict regulations with heat but not ac. When my ac was broken my landlord was nice and brought in a portable one to help until mine was fixed but by law they didn’t have to do this they choose to.

PSA: Watch Live the Practise Courts at the US Open

Main Post:

You can watch practise courts 1 through 5 live:
https://www.usopen.org/en_US/scores/schedule/practice/index.html

Top Comment: Random question about attending qualifying. If I drive and park in one of the far lots, I know they have shuttle buses for the main draw. Are those there for qualifying too?
